How to Change the Streaming Location for Google Drive on Mac
If you've installed the official Google Drive app on Mac, chances are you're managing your files via streaming.
The thing is, for some reason the streaming folder location is fixed, so you can't manage it on an external drive — which ends up eating into your main storage pretty significantly.
So, here's the workaround.
Instead of using the Google Drive app, switching to an app called CloudMounter solves the problem.
By accessing Google Drive through CloudMounter on your Mac, it seems to nicely get around the limitation.
The Finder experience is pretty much the same — actually, it feels even better than the Google Drive app.
CloudMounter has a free plan, and it looks like you can use one connection each for Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive for free.
If you're just connecting one Google Drive account, the free plan should be plenty.
I hope this helps someone out there.
