Birthday

2026-09-20

I turned 37.

Same as last year, I've got nothing I'd really call an achievement to show for it, and that stings.

On the personal side, I feel like I put a decent amount of energy into OSS this past year.

Though it's all been vibe coding with Claude Code, so it's not exactly something I can brag about.

Even so — precisely because we now live in a world where anyone can ship a product without being an engineer, I think there's all the more reason to keep making things and keep putting them out there.

I want to keep pouring energy into OSS this year too.

Meanwhile, I've also started easing into B2B products.

This came out of talking things through with Claude, and I don't think there's much of a path forward if I keep looking only at B2C.

With B2B, pulling it off alone gets a lot harder, and it becomes a world where self-satisfaction counts for nothing.

I want to keep up the pace, keep up the quality, and build something that actually sells.

As for my private life, it was a year with almost no movement.

Forget getting a girlfriend — I quit marriage hunting outright, and, unsurprisingly, haven't met a single person.

I spend 95% of my life in my floor chair, and 99% of it shut in my own room.

My weight has shot up, and I'm drifting toward not really knowing what I'm living for.

Well — that's about par for a single, forty-ish, fully remote guy.

Next year will probably look the same, and it's certainly not going to get better. Nothing to be done about it.

AI has completely changed what an engineer's job even is, which I'm grateful for and find painful in equal measure.

And in the middle of that, wanting to make myself more in demand than ever, to matter more — I know that's asking a lot.

But if I don't, I can see the days turning genuinely empty.

Either way, this year I want to keep at it until I have something to show for it, however small.
